How to change EVs and IVs in Pokémon Scarlet & Violet games

Today's guide focuses on training EVs and IVs. These are two very valuable and important values to build your Pokémon impeccably, both for Tera Raid Battles and for VGC.

What is IV?

They are abilities that the Pokémon has since birth , that is, a high speed or a resistance capacity, either because of the high defense or the high HP.

What is EV?

They are effort values that the Pokémon acquires by training , that is, by winning battles. There are several ways to evolve this value, but you need to be very aware of the capabilities that your Pokémon can or cannot reach with this training.

How to train the IVs?

This is the easiest one, however there is a prerequisite, the Bottle Cap item . This item can be obtained through raid drops or by buying (20,000 gold) at the Delibird Gifts, in the ''General Goods'' area.

Having the item in hand, you just have to go to the city of Montenevera and talk to an NPC that will be behind the Pokemon Center , along with your Abomasnow.

This training consists of improving your six stats. For each enhanced stat , a Bottle Cap will be required.

It is possible to check the status of the Pokémon in the BOX. To do this, press the + button on the Nintendo Switch. The statuses that have written ''BEST'' are already perfect, it will not be necessary to train them.

The statuses that are ''Hyper Trained'', means that they are also perfect, but they are not natural statuses of the Pokémon , that is, in a potential breeding, they will not pass.

Remembering that some statuses DO NOT require training , for example, the Atk Sp of a Pokémon focused on Attack, or vice versa.

How to train EVs?

Now let's improve the effort of our Pokémon. Here are some methods and items that can be used, but depending on the path chosen, it will be necessary to spend a high amount of money.

The first method is the most expensive, but the fastest! Here it will be necessary to buy the vitamins.

Vitamins can be purchased from the Chansey Supply store or can be dropped from event raids. For you to level up a status to the maximum you will need 26 vitamins . For example, if you want to optimize the Attack stat to the maximum, you will need to use 26 Protein on your Pokémon.

It is possible to level up two stats to the maximum in each Pokémon and there is still the opportunity to level up, at least, a third attribute , in this case, only one vitamin will be enough.

  • HP Up - HP
  • Protein - Attack
  • Iron - Defense
  • Calcium - SP Atk
  • Zinc - Sp Defense
  • Carbs - Speed

Another method, very similar to the vitamin method, is the feather method. The issue here is that feathers are less effective vitamins.

As it is a less effective method, resource expenditure is higher. In this case, to optimize a status to the maximum, it will be necessary to spend 252 feathers . These items are easily found on the ground (spots shining), especially in Lake Casseroya and are commonly dropped in raids.

  • Health Feather - HP
  • Muscle Feather - Attack
  • Resist Feather - Defense
  • Genius Feather - Sp Atk
  • Clever Feather - Sp Defense
  • Swift Feather - Speed

Now for the last and most annoying method of training EVs, the bracelet method.

Bracelets can be obtained from Delibird Present , in the General Goods section. You will only need one of each, as the items are not consumables.

For the training to work, it will be necessary to defeat 28 Pokémon responsible for leveling the desired status. How do I know what each wild Pokemon will level up?

Follow a serebii page: Serebii Scarlet and Violet  and the images below to find out what each Pokémon will give you.

Use traditional battle mode, not Lets Go mode. To check if the stats are already up to the maximum, just access the Pokémon's summary, press L and see if the attributes are glowing:

Check out what each bracelet will increase:
  • Power Weight - HP
  • Power Brace - Attack
  • Power Belt - Defense
  • Power Lens - Sp Atk
  • Power Band - Sp Def
  • Power Anklet - Speed

If any Pokémon has received a buff in some unwanted status, the training may be incomplete, but it is possible to reset the status through the berries. Check the list:

  • Pomeg Berry - Reset HP
  • Kelpsy Berry - Reseta Attack
  • Qualot Berry - Resets Defense
  • Hondew Berry - Reseta Sp Atk
  • Grepa Berry - Reseta Sp Def
  • Tamato Berry - Reset Speed

The tip here is to reset the status that will not be used , for example, the Sp Atk on an Attack Pokémon and vice versa
